Robert Lee Edwards, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully in Macedonia, Ohio, on August 3, 2024. Born on July 25, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, Robert was the beloved second son of the late Lizzie Edwards (Hill) and Johnnie Edwards Sr. Raised in Birmingham and later in Cleveland, Ohio, by his grandparents and parents, Robert's life was deeply rooted in family and community. At the age of 10, he moved to Cleveland to be closer to his loved ones, a move that would shape the rest of his life. Robert dedicated his life to hard work, spending his career as an asphalt laborer in the family business. It was a tough job, but one he embraced wholeheartedly, continuing the legacy started by his late father and carried on by his brothers and cousins. Robert's love for life and people was evident in all he did. He was known as the life of the party, always eager to make others laugh and enjoy good times with family. In 1966, Robert married Barbara Ann Edwards, with whom he shared a loving union until her passing in 2014. From their marriage, they were blessed with two children, Sundra Y. Edwards Brown (husband Victor Brown) and Robert Lee Edwards, Jr. Though not a regular churchgoer, Robert was a spiritual man with a heart full of kindness. In his later years, he found joy in studying with Jehovah's Witnesses, which brought him comfort and peace. Robert's love for his family was immeasurable. He enjoyed family dinners, particularly savoring southern foods, and he always ensured that he took care of his elders and those in need. Known for his generosity, he was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. Robert lived a simple life, not one for extravagance or flashiness, but he was rich in love and compassion. Robert is survived by his children, Sundra Y. Edwards Brown and Robert Lee Edwards, Jr. He is also survived by his siblings: William Edwards (wife Deidre), Robert Carter Bey, Michael Edwards, Gregory Carter (wife Winsome), Leonard Edwards, Phenia Wise, Russell (Kimberly) Edwards, Valerie Reid, and Michelle (Gregory) Spencer. He was preceded in death by his siblings, the late Johnnie Edwards, Jr., and the late Vanessa Harris-Holt. Robert was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Andre Florence, Desiree Warren, Dorian Edwards, Robert Edwards, Roben Edwards, and Rayvion Edwards. He is also survived by his 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. His in-laws include Diane McLean (husband Lester), the late Otis Johnson, Jr. (wife Roberta), Beverly Reed (husband Roy), Gary Johnson (wife Gwendolyn), and Cheryl Watkins. Robert's legacy of love, kindness, and hard work will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but remembered fondly by all who knew him.
