Robert Leon
Brooks, Jr.
December 26, 1931 – April 21, 2025
Robert Leon Brooks, Jr., was born to the late Robert Leon Brooks, Sr., and Jessie Lee (Burns) Brooks, in Garland, (Butler County) Alabama, on December 26, 1931. He was twice married to the late Rumilla B. (Sadler) and Zola B. (Jackson-Stembridge) Brooks, respectively. He entered rest due to congestive heart failure on April 21, 2025, at Green Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, in Akron, Ohio. Career Employment Robert began his career in the trucking industry immediately after graduating from South High School, Akron Ohio, in 1951. He landed his first permanent job with Joe (JoJo) Seibel, owners of Seibel Trucking, who blanketed him as their very own son during his lengthy employment with them; and was solely responsible for extending his career in the trucking industry during the time racism was running rampant. Once deciding to retire the Seibel Trucking Company, "Big Joe" created a seamless transition for Bobby by sending him to the Scala Family, owners of Kenmore Construction, who also received him with opened arms. Because of this tremendous grace unmerited, he was blessed to have been able to continue his tenure with the Teamsters Union until his eventual retirement that he has continued to enjoy until this day. The spirit of kindness and genuine concern for community displayed by these two trucking families transferred to dad and became embedded into his heart as well. Community Servant He accepted the Lord early on where his life almost immediately converted into a life of servitude. Some would say, "almost to a fault!" He just couldn't sit down, always seeking opportunities to help somebody along the way. To onlookers, he appeared to be a busybody, but from the eyes and throne of God, a servant's heart operating in the Spirit of Excellence. He served in various capacities as Deacon, Trustee, Usher, and perhaps even most noteworthy, an Events Driver for both New Hope Baptist Church and New Millennium House of Prayer, respectively. His life was not his own, it belonged to the communities in which he was given to serve, attested to by the multitude of friends with whom he resided up and down the streets of Cordova Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods. His Legacy Along with his parents and wives, Rob was also preceded in death by his late siblings: Levander Lee (Ruth) Brooks, Pryce (Ruby) Brooks, Bertha (Leon Jim) Watkins, and Reoye Pete (Pauline) Brooks; his children: Rev. Janet Brooks, Pamela Brooks, and Robert Leon Brooks, III., and grandson: Travell Brooks. Those who remain to carry on his memory are his siblings: King Solomon Brooks, Pauline (James) Baskett, and Erline Tootsie Brooks; children include Joyce Bell, Sharon Brooks, Elder Kevin Tony (Loretta) Brooks, Darrell (Letricia) Brooks, Cecil Stembridge, Lori Brooks, John (Traci) Brooks, and Lewis (Andrea) Jackson, Jr. He also leaves 19 grandchildren, 39 greatgrandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren; his cousin Lula Brooks; and a host of nieces and nephews, family, and special friends. His memory continues to be cherished from the east to the west coast and beyond by those who knew him, and may his life and legacy remain as an inspiration to those he has touched.
