Rebecca Charles, 109 years of age, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2015 at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service. Born on December 4, 1905 in Minter, Alabama, she was the 4th of 11 children born to the late Maggie and Dan Charles. She lived in the Akron community for 46 years and was a faithful and dedicated member of New Covenant Sanctuary of Praise where she was the Church Mother and served in many other capacities. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry, Wash, Moses, Sunshine, Robert, and Richmond Charles; and sisters Eliza Maddox, Sarah Ray, and Maggie Manzy; she is survived by her niece Mary Poole and nephew Moses (Pam) Ray of Akron, both of whom served as her caregivers, sister-in-law Pinkie Charles of Bronx, NY as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing service will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at 12 Noon at New Covenant Sanctuary of Praise, 1115 Milton St., with Pastor Robert Lee officiating. Friends may call the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Internment at Mt. Peace Cemetery.
