Pastor Martin Wesley Smith passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 peacefully surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 20,1944 to the late Sara & Dank Smith in Canton, Ohio. Graduate of McKinley High School and Ashland Theological University with two Masters Degrees.
In 1965 He joined the Army, 101st Airborne Division as a para trooper and sharpshooter, and was honorably discharged in 1967. Before pastoring he was a supervisor at Portec Forges and a case manager at Child & Adolescent Services.
Shortly after leaving the military, Martin made the best decision of his life and married the love of his life, Suzette Battle on November 25,1967
He currently served as Pastor of Rehoboth Rivers of Living Waters COGIC for fourteen years. Preceded in death by parents Sara and Dank Smith and his son, Jarrod Marcus. He leaves his legacy of love to his loving wife Suzette, beloved children; Jamaal and daughter Nakia (Don) Patterson; five grandchildren, Jarrod, Camarie, Donald, Mekhi and Joshua. His sisters; Willadean (Phil) Ridley, Connie Smith and Victoria Wright. His special aunt Peggy Hudson, special friends; Nick Myers, Joseph Morgan, Jesse Evans and Michael Pressley as well as a host of family and friends.
