Obituary

Pastor George Dunwoody Pastor George Dunwoody, 55, affectionately known as "Pastor George," transitioned from Earth to Glory on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Pastor George was born to the late George Sr. and Laura Dunwoody on October 7, 1959 in Canton, Ohio.  He was married to the love of his life, Robin Hightower-Dunwoody for 29 years and would have celebrated 30 years on August 11th. He was the Co-founder and Senior Pastor of L.I.F.E. Ministries International Church and was a member of the Beth-El fellowship of Visionary Churches under the leadership of Bishop F. Josephus Johnson 11.  He was a graduate of McKinley Senior High School.  He worked for Canton City Schools as a Community Liaison at Hartford Middle School for more than 32 years.  He had a heart for making a difference in the lives of youth and also worked diligently in the community.  He served as a board member and treasurer of the Community Treatment and Correction Center, was a member of the Lelia Green Alliance of Black School Educators, co-organizer of Fame Fathers of Stark County, founder of L.I.F.E., Inc. and Just Us Boys Enrichment Camp, and Radio Personality for WINW Joy 1520 AM. He was a renowned soloist and musician and played for various churches and groups throughout the city and state, including the Northern Ohio Baptist District Association where he also served as a facilitator and instructor..  He was previously the pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church for nine years and also worked for a short time with the ministry he founded entitled Bibleway Baptist Church. Pastor George received numerous awards from various organizations in the City of Canton and Northeastern Ohio. As a result of his dedicated community involvement, on his birthday October 7, 2013, Mayor William Healy II designated the day as "Pastor George Dunwoody Day" in Canton. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his grandmother, Cora Lee Phifer; uncles, Eugene and Lawrence Phifer; nephews, Stephen Knox and Michael Williams; and his mother-in-love, Mattie Hightower. He is survived by his wife, Robin Hightower-Dunwoody; sisters, Jacolia Williams and Artelia Doss; Sisters In-Love, Carol (Eddie) Smith, Lisa Hightower and Shelia Canidate; Brother In-Love, Wayne Hightower; special brothers, Terry Lee, Sr., Harold Booker, Toriano Jones, Curtis Perry, and Hector McDaniels.  God Children; Janee Thompson, Jay Stevens, Antonia Willis, Emily & Ava Scott; Jaslynn, Jason and Jayshawn Campbell, Jaquan and Dra'shawn Goodman, Brittanie Booker,  Korry, Karl, and Terry Jr. Lee;  Spiritual children; Kyle Stone, Darius Jeffries, Jaqwan Gamble, and Alisha Walker along with many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
