Nadyne Princess
(Purdie) Hopson
November 7, 1949 – August 19, 2024
Nadyne Princess (Purdie) Hopson departed this earthly life on August 19, 2024 at Akron Summa Hospital. Nadyne was born to the late Nathaniel Purdie Sr and Margaret Purdie in Akron, Ohio. A devoted wife, to Allen Hopson Sr, mother and grandmother, she was affectionately known as Big Mama.
Nadyne graduated from Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio in 1968. After which she attended The University of Akron. She then moved to San Diego, California for a short time but returned to Akron, Ohio and remained a lifelong resident.
Nadyne worked for Admore Inc for over 35 years. She considered her role as a provider to disabled adults as a lifelong passion and calling. Nadyne began as a caseworker and advanced to a home coordinator of two homes before retiring. Nadyne returned to her passion and was a community support worker at her passing.
Nadyne was united in marriage to Allen on September 7, 1991. Their blended family of two girls - Allison Thompson and Diamond Hopson, and four boys - Troy Purdie, Allen (Yolanda) Hopson Jr, Humphrey (Marci) Hopson III, and Diamond Purdie produced an amazing group of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nadyne's life was marked by tenacity and strength of character. She experienced the loss of her son, Troy Purdie and grandson, Keith Thompson Jr. She was also proceeded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Annetta Elliott and Francis Walker.
As a matriarch, Nadyne leaves to cherish her memory her husband, her children, and her brother, Nathaniel (Sharon) Purdie Jr, and her sister, Marie Nicholson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Our entire family agrees wholeheartedly that Nadyne's determination, wisdom, and loving nature will always be remembered and celebrated.
