Obituary

Mother Pearl Myers

A celebration of an abundant life

Pearl was born to Gyde and Willie Mae Carter on November 20, 1928 in Akron, OH. She was the second oldest daughter of four born to this union. Pearl was a graduate of Akron East High School. She furthered her education at Ohio State University and later graduated from nursing school as a Registered Nurse. She served as a Registered Nurse in Cleveland and later in the Akron area as a Charge Nurse.

On August 12, 1955, Pearl married the love of her life, Robert D. Myers Jr. To this union twin sons were born Robert "Bobby" D. Myers III and Ronald D. Myers Sr.  Pearl remained married to Robert D. Myers Jr. until his passing in April 1995. Pearl would say there would never be another Robert Myers and we the family would have to agree. Pearl and Robert set the standard in love and what it meant to honor, cherish and respect your spouse.

Pearl professed and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young adult and served Him until she took her last breath. She did not half step about God, the bible and biblical principles. She would say you are either in or you are out, there are no gray areas. Pearl was so committed to studying God and His word that she attended and graduated from Seminary College.

She served alongside her husband who was the pastor of First Born Church of the Living God in Erie, PA for a short time. Pearl and her husband later became members of New Beginning Church of God in Christ under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Emmitt L. Nevels Sr. in Kent, OH where they served in various capacities.

Pearl always submitted her greatest effort to anyone and any endeavor she encountered. She was kind, passionate and a very loving person that would give you the shirt off of her back. She brought the best in quality because she enjoyed the finer things in life and operated with class and style. She was no half stepper in anything she was associated with.

She lived an abundant life and wore many hats that included mother, sister, grandma, aunt, cousin, friend, nurse, first lady, seamstress, skillful crafter, musician, caterer, tax consultant and realtor. Pearl was an ambitious knowledge seeker and sought to share her knowledge and love for Christ with anyone she came across. She truly lived out the scripture in John 10:10 that says…..I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

She was a blessing to many people along this road we call life always giving back, lending a helping hand and providing support to those in need whether you were family or not. She was a fighter until the end. She will be sorely missed by her family and by those who knew her best.

Enjoy your new home in heaven, Pearl. And we know if we live for and trust Jesus just as you have for all these years, we will live to see you again on the other side.

Pearl departed this life peacefully on March 27, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years Elder Robert Myers Jr.; parents Gyde and Willie Mae Carter; children Gerald Carter, Dale Carter, Debra Jean Myers, Ronald Myers; sisters Evelyn Slack, JoAnne Davis; and grandson Christopher Carter.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Deacon Robert "Bobby" D. Myers III (Holly), daughter Elder Paulette Carswell (Deacon Norman deceased); sister Judy (John Quentin) Tillman; daughters in law Earlene Carter and Jessica Myers; special daughters Rosie, Yolanda, Kaffey and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and other relatives.
