Minnie Lee
(Singleton) Saunders
July 16, 1928 – January 14, 2019
MINNIE LEE SAUNDERS
Minnie was born on July 16, 1928 to the late Mr. Abraham Singleton and the late Mrs. Mary Reid Singleton on Edisto Island, SC. Minnie retired from the House of Loreto in Canton, OH. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Chester Saunders who preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was active on the Usher Board and a member of the International Church Usher Association. Minnie passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019.
Minnie is survived by the joy of her life…her daughter Naomi Freeman who is the birth child of her loving sister. Minnie became Naomi's guardian at a very young age, moving her to Canton and raising her into the lovely lady that we know today. Minnie's grandchildren are Michael and La'Tina, great-grand children, Keyla, Mey'Onna, Michael Jr., Montraya and great-great grandson Kylin. Three siblings preceded her in death, Luther Reid, Elouise Singleton and Alma Moseley. She leaves to cherish in loving memory her siblings Celestine Cook of Detroit, MI, Thelma Washington (Joseph) Charleston, SC, George Nelson (Rosalind) of Canton, OH and Joe Singleton (Johnnie) of Columbus, OH. Her god-child Marilyn "Pinky" McKlesky and adopted daughter Rosemary Clark, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Minnie loved everyone! She was a Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend to so many. She has a lot of extended family and everyone was her Niece or Nephew. She always gave great advice, never holding back, she told it like it was, you always got the truth. She would give you her last dollar to ensure that you have everything you need. She loved to cook, her strong demeanor was frequently unmasked by a warm and generous heart and a quick sense of humor. She often evoked laughter with the slightest of truths and wisdom, expecting nothing in return for what she naturally loved to give. The Singleton-Saunders home was a place for those passing through looking for conversation, a meal or just a cozy, safe atmosphere. She was love, she was attitude, she was strength wrapped in beauty. Minnie cherished her family, she left us with beautiful memories, her love is still our guide, although we cannot see her, she is always by our side.
