Michael Gerald Lacy, 65, a lifelong resident of Akron, OH, was born October 21, 1955 and passed away at home on Monday, September 13, 2021, after a brief illness.
Michael graduated from John R. Buchtel High School in 1975. A year later he started his career at Akron City Hospital (now known as Summa HealthSystem) where he worked for 40 years. During that time, he also served on AFSCME Local 684 Ohio Council 8 for over 35 years with his last position being Vice President, where he represented 680 employees.
Michael was a diligent student of martial arts and studied under Grand Master Omg and Master Al Wasil. He specialized in Wing Chun, Ninjutsu, Shaolin Kung Fu, and Chin Na. He was also known for being an avid CB Operator and held a Novice Class HAM radio license (Call Sign K88OKA).
Michael was also dedicated to mentoring children. He not only nurtured his own, but he made a lasting impact on the lives of many children that he encountered. His other interests included cycling, a love for animals and coaching basketball. Because of his love for the Lord and time within the Union, Michael was always helping others. This was proven by him regularly feeding people at Tent City and his commitment to sharing the Gospel. He was always a shining light in the lives of others.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Emel and Estella Lacy.
Michael was defined by the love of his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Eric (May) Parms, Michael (Candace) Lacy II,Dawon Haskins, Sharree Weaver, Toi Weaver and Izrel Cleveland; grandchildren, Shaymon, Richard, Eric Jr., Carlisha, Jordan, Cartel, Corleone, Carson Jr., Carmello, Carlee, and Canton; great grandchildren, August and Jace; he is also survived by his loving sisters, JoAnn B. Carter and Carol Elaine Blair; one nephew, David E. Carter, Jr.; and a host of family and close friends.
