Melvin Seals, age 69, passed away at his home in Akron, Ohio on February 8, 2024. He was born on December 16, 1954, to Barbara J. Cooper and Willie C. Smith in Crawford, Mississippi. He graduated from South High School in Akron, Ohio in 1973 and recently worked for Carlisle Brake & Friction for a number of years.

He leaves behind 3 children, Dr. Tia Harmon, Mr. Qua Watkins, and Mr. Brandon Brown; 8 grandchildren (Aria, Aaron, Qua Jr., Zaria, Brandon Jr., Brandy, Bryan, and Byron; and 3 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Maurice Seals Sr. of Akron, Ohio and sisters Diana Johnson, Laraine, Eva, Evon, and Evelyn Smith of Memphis, TN as well as a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jake Seals and Jeff Smith.

Melvin was affectionately known by many names, Buddy Hall, Meli Mel, Uncle Mel, and Dad. He showed us not to take life too seriously and how to live with a little razzle- dazzle. Melvin was the life of the party known for his playful sense of humor, dazzling style, and of course dashing good looks. In his younger years, he was an acclaimed basketball player, track & field star, and talented performer. More recently, he enjoyed reflecting on his past and spending time with loved ones. Throughout life's ups and downs, Melvin's love for his family and friends remained constant. He will be deeply missed and will always hold space in our hearts.
