Mother Maud Josephine (Norris, Griffin) Amos journeyed to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday evening, April 14, 2021; which was her Teacher's and Prayer Meetings night. She was born on September 20, 1934 to Willa Mae Culbreath and Elwood Guess Norris in Steubenville, Ohio.  At the age of 9, her mother passed away and she was separated from her older sister Julia Culbreath.  At that time Maud's father took her to live with him in Cleveland, Ohio.  Maud was miserable, she requested to live with her great Aunt Josie and Uncle Bill Dinwiddie in Orrville, Ohio.  Being that they did not have children of their own, they felt blessed to raise her.

Maud attended Orrville School system and was the first African-American varsity cheerleader.  She graduated in May of 1952.  After graduation, she married Frederick Lawrence  Griffin on September 21, 1952, and to this union two children were born; Clarissa Ann Griffin and Frederick Len Griffin,

On September 23, 1963, she married Homer Lee Amos and was a devoted and especially supportive wife in his ministerial life until Rev. Amos' passing on October 25, 1999.

Maud accepted Jesus when she attended a Wednesday night service with her best friend Emma (Howard) Powell at the True Church House of Prayer.  She joined First Baptist Church that Sunday.  She joined and was the youngest member of the Sr. Choir (in which she was a pianist for a brief time), the usher board, church historian, church secretary, church clerk, janitor, cards and flowers, kitchen committee, missionary guild, Vacation Bible School Superintendent, speaker for various churches Women's Day and W.O.W.M. (Wooster, Orrville, Wadsworth, Medina) Union Mission, and a teacher and judge for the Akron District as well as the N.O.B.D.A. (Northern Ohio Baptist District Association) Conventions.

Due to illness, she moved to live with her daughter's family and joined Second Baptist Church in Alliance under the leadership of Rev. Willie Bell.  She later moved with her son's family and joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Youngstown under the leadership of Rev. Clifford Kimbrough.

Preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Willa Mae Norris; foster parents, Willie and Josie Dinwiddie; husband, Rev. Homer Amos; great-grandson, O'Shea Weatherspoon; sister, Julia Hutchins; sisters-in-law, Trolly Amos, Francis (Griffin) Ashford; brothers-in-law, John, Russell, Charles, and Roger Amos, and Bill Ashford; (3) nieces, Shirley Jean (Amos) Collins, Bonita (Hutchins) Starks, Cathy Amos; (2) nephews, Keith Hutchins, Billy Ashford; aunt, Annie Ruth Seeden.

She leaves to cherish her memory are her daughter, Clarissa (Eddie) Weatherspoon of Alliance, Ohio; son, Frederick (Doris) Griffin of Youngstown, Ohio; (5) grandchildren, Lee (Nikki) Snell, Troy Weatherspoon, Angela Weatherspoon, Monté Curtis, and Anthony Parker; (10) great grandsons, (5) great granddaughters, (4) great-great grandsons; (4) great-great granddaughters; great aunt, Mattie (Culbreath) Burns; brothers-in-law, George Amos, Bill (Mary Alice) Amos; sisters-in-law,  Marie (Amos) Topps, Elizabeth (Amos) Spights; Orr St. lifetime friends, Maggie Bryant, Rhonda Stoudmire, and Mattie DeHart; Youngstown, Ohio close friend, Sis. Ann Floyd, as well as a host of relatives, students, pastors, and church families of all three churches that she called  "MY CHILDREN".
