Mattie Louise (Bradley) Davis, was born to the late Homer and Minnie (Rodgers) Bradley on January 14, 1918 in Milton, Florida. She was the younger of two children. She departed this earth very peacefully on December 7, 2014. Mattie, (aka) Mama, Grandma, Ti Ti, Nana, Aunt Mattie, and Mother Davis, to many, was a beautiful, strong, no-nonsense, God- fearing, family loving person.
At the age of five years old, her parents and brother, William Thomas Bradley (Tom), relocated to Coshocton, Ohio. They relocated from Coshocton to Dover, Ohio, where she attended school.
Mattie's mother, Minnie, was a strong and dedicated Christian woman, so she and her brother had to attend Sunday School and Church services at the First Baptist Church in Dover. Mattie, her two aunts, Isabell and Ella Lee, her cousin Lucille and her Sister-in-Law Willaree, formed a singing group. The pastor and members of the church always invited them to sing for certain programs, until the sister-in-law started a song in the wrong key. Her Aunt Isabell got upset and called the Sister-in-Law stupid. That broke up the group!!
It was at First Baptist Church that Mattie saw a tall handsome man who had a beautiful bass voice singing in a quartet. Not knowing that he had also been looking at her, she soon met him after being introduced by a friend. On February 14, 1933 she married Charlie Davis and out of that union, six children were born, Delores Y. Davis – Davis (Anne), Charles Thomas Davis, William Davis (Duty), Cecil James Davis, Sandra K. Hill, and Jacqueline Williams.
Mattie attended the Davis Family Reunion every year, only missing one and that was because of illness. She was surrounded by so much love coming from Charlie's nieces and nephews. They always honored and blessed her at the Reunions. She loved them dearly.
After the death of her husband, Mattie relocated to Piscataway, New Jersey where she lived with her son, Charles and loving Daughter-in-Law, Shelvie, for over 40 years. She became a member of the Macedonia Freewill Baptists Church, Piscataway, New Jersey where the Rev. Rouse is the pastor. She served on the Mother's Board and was the oldest member of the church where she gave love and was surrounded by so much love. After the passing of her son and Daughter-in-Law, Mattie relocated back to Canton, Ohio and lived with her loving Son-in-Law and Daughter, Arthur and Sandra K. Hill, until her passing.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; two sons, Charles and Cecil Davis; her only brother, William Bradley (Tom); Daughter-in-Law, Shelvie Davis; a step niece, Thelma Rutlin-Greer, a great grandson, Thevenin Terrell.
