Matthew also known as "Penny June" of  "J-Roc" to his friends and family ws born in Canton, Ohio and a graduate of GlenOak High School.  Matthew was born to the late Penny (Townsley) Anthony and Matthew Burton Smith, Sr.   Matthew was a loyal Steelers fan, loved spending time with his family, playing chess, and had a thirst for knowledge.

Matthew accepted the Lord into his life at a early age.  In addition to his parents, Matthew was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence Smith.

Survived by his wife, Freda (Harris) Smith; daughters, Mikayla, Vanna, Alanna, Mercedes, and Leaih; (3) step-daughters, Chanha (Maynard) Taylor of Georgia, Kayla Bennet and Anganette Bennett; sons, Alonzo, Brian, and Matthew all of Canton, Ohio; 12  grandchildren; siblings, brothers, Lewis Smith, Daryle Bryant, and Trey Smith; sisters, Tuesday Stokes, Madrica Bradley-Sims, and Gretchen (Isiah ) Cone all of Canton, Ohio as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other  relatives, and friends.

Matthew's infectious smile will be missed but his memory will live on through everyone that knew him.
