Mary L. Wilson's Obituary

Mary Lee Wilson (Sister Mae) was born Aug 29, 1924, to Castoria Worsham and Monroe Gates in Parkin, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Wilson; mother, Castoria Darling; stepfather, Jessie Darling; father, Monroe Gates; stepmother, Willa Mae Gates; grandmother, Gertrude Maxwell; daughters Joyce Walker and Linda Cottman; son, Larry Taylor; sisters Loretta Webb, Margret Gates, Bobbie Gates; brother, Christopher Gates; special cousin Parthena Mitchum.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Laura Motley(San Mateo, California) and June Sands (Kansas City, Missouri); Daughter-In-Law, Delois Taylor (Chicago, Illinois); Son-In-Law, Kirkwood Cottman, Sr. (Copley, Ohio); sisters Johnnie Mae Dunn, Carolyn (Willie Iverson), Marlene Gates, Rachel Williams (All of Akron Ohio), Edith Higgins (North Carolina); brother, Freddie Gates (Akron); a host of relatives that includes a big bundle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren along with her

Macedonia Baptist Church Family (Akron, Ohio) and Livingstone Baptist Church (Barberton, Ohio); and special friend Pam Jones.

Mary Lee Wilson worked and retired in 1989 as a seamstress for Uniware and Co.

She was truly a child of God. She led by example by being a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She loved reading the Bible, listening to gospel music, and believed in the power of prayer. She was blessed with the gift to command respect and stay calm in any situation with just a few words and a stern look without ever raising her voice.

Some of her pastime passions were puzzles, fishing, watching soaps and Westerns. No matter how many times we visited her, she would greet her family with the ultimate excitement like it was the first time seeing us and the happiest moment of her life. She had the legendary deep freezer at her home on 5th Avenue and when her grandchildren would enter, it was the first thing to walk by; but we never just walked by because it had all the goodies we loved, and our parents were no longer in charge. Grandma was in charge, and she never said no. Once we got inside the kitchen it was the snack cabinet, namely Cracker Jacks. Again, she never said no.

She was greatly loved and will truly be missed.
