February 26, 1964 – October 11, 2022
Mary W. Ragin, age 58, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, peacefully and surrounded by love.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Rodney Dukes; sisters, Carrie Diane Walker, Patricia Smith, and Cynthia McKenzie; brother, Rodney Dukes; sister in laws, Lillie Ann Ogbonna and Barbara A. Ragin; brother in laws, James Ragin, Willie Ragin, Jonathan Ragin, and Kenneth McKenzie.
Mary will be deeply missed by her husband of 27 years, John Ragin Sr.; son, John Ragin Jr.; daughter in law, Tara Ragin; her pride and joy, daughter, Joi Ragin; step son, Trayon Johnson Ragin; granddaughters, Maliyah, Amya, and Alivia; sister, Sidonia Washington; sister in laws, Daisy (Pete) Lawson, Annie McKenzie, Fenia Ragin, Kathy D. (Darold) Ragin-Kitt, and Barbara M. Ragin; brother in laws, Robert (Annette) Ragin, Thomas (Tracy) Ragin, and Robert S. Ragin; many beloved nieces and nephews; best friend, Tammy Haugabook; and special family friend, Brian Tolbert.
Mary went to Miami Northwestern Highschool in Miami, Florida where she played softball and was a scholar athlete. She continued to play softball after high school until she started her job as a school bus driver. She worked there for 12 years before moving to Akron, Ohio in 1999 with her husband.
Mary was a God-fearing woman known for her warm spirit. She was a proud and faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for 22 years. She spent most of her time on the prayer line and was involved in women's ministry. Mary also enjoyed cooking. Her friends and family enjoyed her cooking as well, especially her famous fried chicken. But there was nothing she cherished more than the time spent with her babies, or "grandma's suggas" as she always called them.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Mary touched are invited to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 1350 Virginia Ave, Akron, OH 44306 on Saturday, October 22 nd , 2022. A viewing will be held at 1:00 pm and services start at 2:00 pm. Mary's final resting place will be at Saint Paul Holiness Church of The Apostles at 3018 Liberty Hill Road, Summerton, SC 29148.
