Mary E. Pratt's Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Pratt was born in Carlton, GA on February 1, 1953 to the late Mae B. Davenport and LeEbb Davenport. Also caring for and raising Mary was Mr. Willie Slay (her dad). At the age of two (2) Mary and her family moved to Canton, Ohio. Upon graduating from McKinley High School in June of 1971, Mary was hired by IBM. Mary spent the majority of her career employed by the State of Ohio, in many different departments. She spent her last decade of service in the Foster and Adoption Department. Her love for children and passion for finding them forever homes extended beyond her career. Mary retired from the State of Ohio after thirty years (30) of service. Soon thereafter she fulfilled her lifelong goal of moving back to Georgia. Prior to moving to the Peach State, she became an independent contractor doing adoption parties. She was also employed by Sears as a Loss Prevention Manager. Mary was blessed to retire a second time from the State of Georgia Job and Family Services Department. Mary accepted Christ at a young age as she grew up in St. Mark Baptist Church. She later joined Mt. Calvary Second Missionary Baptist Church and was one of the "Original 19" founding members of True Light Christian Ministries. Once Mary moved to Georgia she became a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. Mary loved spending time with family, traveling, reading, cooking and baking. She was famous for her delicious macaroni and cheese and her pound cakes. Being a mother was Mary's ministry and that showed in the love she poured into all her children and grandchildren. Mary loved her family and traveled across the country to see her people, especially her mother. Throughout her lifetime, Mary mentored many young mothers and young people from a career and life standpoint. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bill Pratt, mother Mae B. Davenport, father Willie Slay, infant son Korey and sister Tressie Lynn Mayle. She leaves to cherish her memory children Keith Pressley, Kevin Pressley, Roslyn Pratt, Barbara Rutledge and Jarrod Pratt all of Canton; Shaniece Pratt of Columbus, Ohio; and Brittney Pratt of Atlanta, Georgia; siblings Beatrice Tharp, Thomas Davenport and Tomier (Kimberly) Davenport and Terry (Danielle) Patterson all of Canton; Willie Mae (Anthony) Wilson of Simpsonville, KY; Ted (Mari) Davenport of North Ridgeville, Ohio; grandchildren Davion Johnson, Isaiah Caldwell and Elijah Caldwell of Atlanta, GA; Adrianna Pressley of Phoenix, AZ; Kela Pressley of Canton, Ohio; Kingstun Davis-Isles and Starnae Davis-Isles of Massillon, Ohio; Michael Rutledge of Louisville, Ohio; Nyiah Pratt and Alyza Steckel of Columbus, Ohio; Curtis Pratt of Oakland, CA; great-grandchildren Kehlani Kates, Cherysh Pratt, Curtis Pratt Jr., Carter Pratt, Calil Pratt and Caleb Pratt all of Canton, Ohio; Kai Smith, Desmond Lewis, Araya Lewis and Adrian Lewis all of Phoenix, AZ; a host of relatives and friends including sister friends Pamela Greene, Gerri Harper, Janice Hogan.
