After living over 101 years, the matriarch of the Akron, Ohio Stiggers family, ‘Aunt Pug’, passed away on Friday, June 12 with family at her side.

Margaret Nell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 16, 1924, to Josephus Williams and Margaret (Durden) Williams. She moved with her family to Akron, Ohio when she was 9 years old. Margaret attended Akron Public schools and obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate from coursework offered through Akron Practical Nursing School. While residing in Akron, Margaret met and married Thomas Stiggers, a military Veteran. This marriage lasted for 62 years until Thomas’ death in 2004. And to this union, seven children were born who hold her wisdom and lively nurturing spirit in their hearts.

Margaret had been a resident of Akron for over 90 years and a faithful member of Philips Chapel C.M.E. Church. She was a dedicated employee at B.F. Goodrich Tire Company, but spent most of her adult life as a licensed practical nurse caring for others as evidenced by her tenures at Akron Children’s Hospital, Akron Children’s Home, and the Brecksville VA Hospital until she retired.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with family, especially, when she, her husband, children and grandchildren spent some of their vacations in Angola, Indiana, where they have a summer cottage by Fox Lake. She truly enjoyed reading, as evidenced by the hundreds of books in her library. Her other pastimes were watching baseball on television, listening to good music, and having friends, neighbors and relatives over for cookouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas, 12 siblings, notably Robert, Bernis and Melvin Williams and granddaughter Marguerita Stiggers.

 She leaves, to celebrate her life, sons Robert, Joseph, Dante (Stacie) Stiggers and daughters Nonita Stiggers, Denise Omenai, Dawn (Kent) Ferguson, Deon Stiggers, brother-in-law Philip Mendoza, loving niece DonnaJune Hill, special cousin Jewel Jones, 19 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren and hosts of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

From humble beginnings during the Great Depression, Margaret built a life defined by devotion. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be missed
