Mamie (Willis) Irvin was born May 21, 1927 in Hale County, Alabama the 11th of 18 children of James and Mamie Nash Willis Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gallion, Alabama.  Later as an adult, she was baptized in Jesus Name at Bethel Pentecostal Church in London, Ohio, and she received the Holy Ghost at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Columbus, Ohio in 1990.  Mrs. Irvin was a motherly figure to many young people who, to this day, reflect on their adolescent years with gratitude knowing her as an educator at Hartford Middle Schoo.  Active in her local community and church, she was the Missionary Auxiliary president at the Apostolic Faith Church for many years and loved to attend the Northern District Missionary meetings.  She often mentioned how much she enjoyed traveling to the July Ohio District Council sessions in Zanesville to worship and fellowship with other Missionaries.  Her charm, jubilant spirit and quick wit kept her family and friends laughing and uplifted.  So much so that it was often said that, "Mom Got Jokes."  Her love for family extended beyond her household.  She would often call her nieces and nephews and extended family all over the country to comfort, befriend and show love.  Her genuine spirit reached her generation, older generations and younger generations resulting in the fitting nickname, "Aunt Hun."  Mrs. Irvin was one of the best cooks on the planet.  She mastered comfort food as well as the ability to comfort all that she encountered.  following the example of her mother, she opened her modest home to those in need to share her abundant love and motherly counsel.  Her kindred spirit extended to people and places both far and near.  From Maui, Hawaii, where she traveled with her eldest son, to Demopolis, Alabama, no one was a stranger and everyone was a neighbor to Mrs. Irvin.  She took pride in the appearance of her home and loved gardening, decorating and entertaining guest.  During her 90th birthday celebration, her lifelong commitment to God and family was acknowledged as she was dedicated as a Mother in the Lord's church by her youngest son and pastor.  She was officially calle dby what she had lond served as, "Mother Mamie Willis Irvin."  Mother Irvin preceded in dath by her father, James Willis, Sr.; mother, Mamie Nash Willis; husband, Lenzo Irvin, Sr.; daughters, Celeste Irvin and Theresa Campbell; granddaughter, Verkiesha Cox;p siblings, Moses Willis, Dorothy Willis, Beatrice Willis, Cora Willis, John Willis, Peter, Willis, James Willis, Jr., Elsie Willis, Florence Willis, Henry Willis, Alice Willis, Georgia Willis, Mary Willis, and Alexander Willis.  She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children: Lenzo (Lorene) Irvin, Jr. of Fayetteville, Georgia, William (Madalyn) Irvin of Canton, Ohio, Bishop Gregory (Carmen) Irvin, Sr. of London, Ohio and Belinda Dean of Fort Wayne, Indiana; (10) grandchildren; Dionne (Roy) James, Dorian Irvin, Lance Irvin, Landon (Alexa) Irvin, Crystal Irvin, Candace Irvin, April Irvin, Gregory Irvin II, DeAnte' Dean and Arielle Dean; (8) great-grandchildren, (1) great-great grandchild; siblings, Romelia (Cleo) Blackburn of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Bernice Davis of Long Beach of California, Bessie Willis of Los Angeles, California; in-laws, Winnie McCall and Pauline Irvin as well as a host of other family and friends.
