Mabel
Hogan
January 18, 2019
Mable Hogan, affectionately known as "Mae," the youngest daughter of the late John Henry Clark and Murdis Hogan Clark, was born July 21, 1942 in Canton, Ohio. She peace- fully transitioned into the arms of her loving Father on Friday, January 18, 2019. Mae attended Canton City Schools. Later in life, she affiliated with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and used available opportunities to serve. Shortly after the birth of her first child, Mae relocated to New York City where she attended Fordham University and became a licensed photographer. For a number of years, Mae was employed by Pryor Photo, Inc., the company employed by the New York City School System for their photography needs. Their slogan was "Pictures Are Forever". Mae and her sister Ellen "El" had a very close relationship that embraced a life-long friend, "Cookie" (Annette Jones). The three formed a special bond that has spanned more than fifty years. They enjoyed traveling, girlie sleep-overs, shopping, and anything that brought them together. It did not have to be anything special, just being together. When asked how their friendship survived over the years, their answer was "acceptance of each other without questions, answers, or explanations". They had a singing group ordered by Johnny Clark and they went around singing but admit they could not sing. In 1992, Mae returned to Canton and became her mother's caretaker while working various jobs including B&B Grocery, the Ohio Lottery Agency, The Arbors Nursing Home, and The Place to Be. She then attended Stark State University. Mae was an active member of the Juneites Social Club of Canton. As any mother, Mae wanted her children and generations to follow to have a better life than her own. She made many sacrifices to do her part in making that happen. Her love was unconditional. Mae's hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, skating, playing poker, photographing, watching television, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She found great satisfaction in helping and assisting the elderly. She pleasured herself in serving whether it meant trips to the doctor, grocery store, or other errands as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her parents; (1) daughter, Murdis Louise Shipp; brother, Johnny Vance Hogan; grandson, Carl Lester Jackson; (2) grand babies, Nikki Shipp and Angel Johnson Clark; brother, Bobby Camper. Left to cherish her memories are: (4) daughters, Jolanda Ann Clark, Abigail (Hillard) Odd, Crystal Clark, Kim (Larry) Foxx, all of Canton, OH; (1) son, Mark Eugene Clark, of Pensacola, FL; her bonus son (grandson), Alfred Shipp, whom she raised as her own following the untimely death of her daughter; (2) sisters, Ellen (Lawerence) Tabbs, and Evelyn Connors Kelly, both of Canton, OH; (4) nieces, Robin Clark Johnson and Lynn Denise Hogan, both of Canton, OH; Tracy Hogan, Columbus, OH, and Cliffie Bradley, Cleveland, OH; (2) nephews, Shawn Bradley and Chance Hall both of Canton, OH; close cousins, George (Vicki) Hogan, Canton, OH, Joann McPherson, Massillon, OH, Elder Bessie Taylor, Raleigh, NC, Dr. Frances Harrington, Lillington, NC; (17) grandchildren; (40) great-grandchildren; (5) great, great grandchildren; a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
