Lollie B. Brooks, affectionately called "Community Mom Brooks," entered into her eternal rest with our Heavenly Father on February 8, 2017. She was born in Ramer, Alabama on November 25, 1919 to the late Fletcher J. and Alean (Normen) Richardson. She was the oldest of four children and moved to Massillon, Ohio at the age of three. Mom Brooks graduated from Washington High School in 1938. She married the late Herman R. Brooks in 1940. From this union was born four children. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of twelve. She often said that she received her B.A. degree (Born Again Christian) many years ago. As a devoted member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, served as a former Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, (president of the Senior Choir, Usher board, and the Missionary Society. For three years was vice president of the United Church Women. Mom Brooks was one of the first blacks to be employed by Echo. She retired from Central State Can and Crown Company. In 1995 Mom Brooks published a book of poems titled " Poems of Simplicity". This collection of poems derived form different experiences as a mother, Christian, and friend. She was never at a loss for words and she enjoyed praying and giving welcoming addresses, always starting with her favorite bible verse. "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Her advice to everyone was " If a person has a dream, continue to pursue it and never give up on it.' In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Herman R. Brooks; son, Gilbert Brooks; brothers, John Richardson, Fletcher Richardson, Jr., and Walter Richardson. Leaving to cherish her beautiful memory her (3) children Jerry (Rachel) Brooks of California, Carole Tolbert of Warrnesville, Hts, Ohio, and Carmen (Martin) Johnson of Colorado; sisters-in-law, Earnestine Beasley of Cuyahoga Falls and Vivian Richardson of Detroit Michigan; (5) grandchildren, (6) great-grandchildren; extended family, Esther Bryant, Curtis Perry, and the Warren family of Warrensville Hts, Ohio as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
