Rev. Leroy Groce, 79 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2015, at his residence. Rev. Groce was born January 29, 1936, in Roanoke, Alabama to the late Paul and Nellie Groce. At an early age he accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Anniston, AL. He was a graduate of Cobb Avenue high School, and soon afterwards, joined the United States Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1961. He moved to Canton, OH that same year and became a member Rev. Groce served as Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Malvern, OH. He later ministered at several churches in the Canton area. At the time of his death, Rev. Groce was a faithful member of Wells of Joy C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Elder Lloyd Kinlow. He loved golfing, fishing, and his treasured boat that he owned for many years.
Rev. Groce is survived by 3 sisters; Lillian Smith of Nashville, TN, Myrtle Dixon and Classey Groce, both of Canton, OH; 4 brothers; Paul Jr., Charles, Donald (Jonnette) and Ronald Groce, all of Canton, OH. He also leaves to mourn his passing 17 nieces; Pearl Garrett, Lanetta Waters, Mary (Bobbie) Tucker, Janice Billens, Marguerite Holdbrook, Clarice Tibbs, Georgia (Jessie) Walker, Kathyla Howell, Vivian Groce, Angie Dixon, Jeri Groce, Karen Tate, Cerina Groce, Stephanie Groce, Margo Jackson, Shania Tibbs, and Samantha Groce –8 nephews Posey Smith, Antonio (Lenora) Lightfoot, Danny (Ann) Tucker, Bobby (Tanzia) Tucker, Frank (Matilda) Dixon, Elton Groce, Marcellis Groce and Winfred Shoulders. We also wish to mention very close cousins, Mildred Freeman, the Jackson family, and a host of other relatives; also, very dear friends Mrs. Juanita Summers, Donte Summers, Ms. Jenelle Freeman, and many other dear friends.
