Obituary

Leonard Sylvester Washington passed away February 12 th 2022 at 79, at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus Ohio. Leonard Washington was born on November 29 th 1942 in Montgomery, West Virginia. His parents James and Hatti Washington Sr had 4 children Flora Daniels, Cora Washington, James Washington Jr, and Baby which they called Leonard because that's what he was, until 8 years later when Dave Washington was born, then Lonnie Washington, Bonita Washington, and Robert Washington. Leonard graduated from Montgomery High in 1961 and between 1962-1965 he served in the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged from service in Fort Wood, Texas. He received medals for Guard Conduct, Expert Pistol, and Expert Rifle. He would stay with Virgie and Pepper Kendall during summer breaks, so once he got out the Army. He went to Canton, Ohio and found Dorothy (Dottie) Higgins. They had Derrick Higgins June of 1966, and got engaged but decided they would be better off as friends. Leonard would go on to marry Ernestine Washington Feb 14 th 1967 and have a son Earnest Washington November 30 th 1968. Leonard started his career at Timken once he married Ernestine Washington. Leonard was a devoted Father and Husband to Ernestine Washington, and Lona Ross (Step daughter). Leonard and Ernestine divorced in 1975. Leonard was briefly remarried in 1977 to Virginia Washington, and had no kids. In the early 80's Leonard met Dianna Watts and January 17 th 1985 had Latrisha (Ikey) Watts. Leonard met Hilda Holmes in 1984 and had Tyrone Washington April of 1985. Leonard married Hilda Washington in the summer of 1994 and raised his kids and grandkids. Leonard moved to Columbus in 2012 then in 2015 moved to North Carolina.  After his wife Hilda Washington passed, he moved back to Columbus Ohio in 2016 until the time he passed. Leonard Washington loved bowling, cards, and games such as dominos, and scrabble. He loved sports and sitting on the porch drinking coffee on a good morning. Most of all he loved his kids and grandkids. Leonard has touched so many lives and will truly be missed.

He was preceded in death; Father,  James Washington Sr. and Mother,  Hatti V. Washington; Sisters,  Flowers Daniels, Cora Washington, and Linda Washington; Brothers,  James Washington Jr. and Brother-in-Law,  Nathaniel Johnson.

He is survived by Sister,  Bonita Washington and Brothers,  Dave Washington, Lonnie Washington, Robert Washington, and brother-in-law,  Walter (Shortie) Daniels; Daughter,  Latrisha Watts, and Sons,  Derrick Higgins, Ernest Washington and Tyrone Washington; two Step daughters and three step sons children and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren with special family Virgie & Pepper Kendall.
