Lawrence James Tharp was born on March 9, 1946. He completed his mission in this life on Monday, July 13, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Theda (Powe) Tharp, two brothers, Gentry and Jeffery Tharp. Left to celebrate his life is his wife Jacquelyn Marie (Tavares) Tharp whom he married on June 11, 1966; his children Lawrence James Jr., Andre Joseph, and Anissa Dee Tharp-Scott Jermaine). Surviving siblings, twin brother, Leonard Tharp (Donna), Brenda Tharp-Thompson (William) and Sheila Tharp. Additionally, he leaves to celebrate his life 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 18 nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. He graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1963. He was a member of the U.S Navy Sea Cadets for four years and served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Repairman (MR2) from 1963 to 1966 on the U.S.S. Lake Champlain (CV-39). He had the privilege of retrieving the Gemini V spaceship capsule, among his many special missions. He was a Journeyman Machinist at Ford Motor Company and Esmet Inc. in Canton, Ohio for over forty years. Prior to his formal machinist training, he learned his skills and work ethics as a young man working for Tharp's Trucking, established by his father James Tharp. He honed his truck driving talents and business skills along with his brothers during this time. He retired in 2010. Lawrence was a passionate reader, a walking encyclopedia, and an avid philosopher versed in many philosophies. He was a celebrated winemaker amongst his family and friends, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, studying theology, and sharing his knowledge with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
