Lanh Phoummalavy, lovingly known as "PoPo," passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Akron, Ohio. Born on June 1, 1953, in Laos, Lanh served in the Vietnam War before immigrating to the United States in 1980, seeking a new beginning for his family. He first settled in Illinois before making his home in Akron Ohio in the late 1980s. During his military service, Lanh married Nou Bales. Though they later divorced, they remained connected through family and shared memories. Lanh was a hardworking and dedicated man who retired from Gardner Pie Company in 2018. Those who knew him would describe him as funny, giving, quiet, and dependable—always there when someone needed him. He loved his birds, fashion, hats and especially spending time with family. Some of his most cherished moments were simple outings with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—to the laundromat, the mall, or the grocery store—moments that brought him joy and that they will forever remember.  He was preceded in death by his beloved bird, Jerry. Lanh leaves behind his ex-wife, Nou Bales; his son, Seb Phoummalavy; grandchildren Jurni, J'Lanh, Janisa, and Jai'Ana; great-grandsons Khairo and Million; special daughter Fran'Schell; special sons James, Jr, Dontrell, Leequon, and Mike; his nephew Chan Hemsouvanh; his beloved birds G-Herbo and Yo-Yo; and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, generosity, humor (he loved singing "Bling Bling" and "It's Going Down"), and the love he shared with those closest to him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Lanh's journey from Laos to the United States, his service, and the love he gave to his family remain a lasting legacy for generations to come.
