Kathryn Boykin, made her peaceful transition on Friday, May 4, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 30, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to her parents, Nina and Joseph Gillespie. Kathryn attended East High School and Kent State University. She was a faithful member of Wesley Temple Church where she sang in the gospel choir. She loved gardening, walking and most of all her children. She absolutely loved her family and extended family. Kathryn was also a member of East Akron Neighborhood Block Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nina and Joseph Gillespie; husband, Mercedes Boykin and son, Mercer Boykin; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and her mother and father-in-law. Left to forever cherish her loving memory her son, Jon Boykin; daughters, Valerie Sommerville, Tricia (Keith) Davis and Francine Tuck; best friend, Bessie Witherspoon; 7 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
