Our beloved Joyce Ann Mitchell-Melton peacefully enter into eternal peace surrounded by her loving family on December 11, 2023. She was born on January 29 ,1946 in Oberlin, Ohio she attended Akron Public Schools. Joyce graduated from South High School in 1964, after high school she pursed her career as a Data Processor Analyst for Oneil's Department Store until the closing of the store in 1989. Joyce then pursed her career as a Information Technologist working at Kent State University until she retired in June 2005. Joyce was a lifetime member of People's Baptist Church. Joyce loved entertaining and cooking, she was known for her cookies, cakes, and pies. She was always caring and helping others, it didn't matter if it was a family member or a friend, you could always count on her helping out!!!
She was proceeded in death by her parents Willard E. Mitchell Sr. and Mildred Marie Mitchell-Williams and her sister Jacqueline Murray. She is survived by her two loving sons Darnell (Trina) and Derrick Mitchell both of Akron ,Ohio, and Bonus son Alfred C. She was also the grandmother of; Darielle Mitchell of Dallas, Texas Dominique Mitchell of Miami, Florida, Dejuan Hamilton of Nashville, Tennessee, William (Marlessa) McWain, and Tramontay McWain both of Akron, Ohio, also her Great grandson Alaric Townsend of Dallas, Texas. She also leaves to cherish her sisters; Marie Price and Sylvia Willis both of Akron, Ohio, Willard E. (Jackie) Mitchell of Miami, Florida, Phyllis Pittman of Commerce, Georgia, her dear friend Rita, godchildren; Danesha, Howard (HB) and her life long companion Kendrick Melton Sr. and his children Kendrick Jr., Jackie, Melton of Atlanta, Georgia, Keith (Stephnie) Brown of Atlanta Georgia, Theodore Melton of Akron, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
May Joyce's legacy continue to live through her sons and her family. She will truly be missed by all, also her sons would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care and Falls Village Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care they showed during our mom's illness.
