Joseph Henry Thomas' Obituary

Joseph Henry Thomas, affectionately known as Jo Rudy or Jovon, passed away on July 12, 2025, at the age of 44, in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. Born and raised in Akron, Joseph was full of life, love, and passion. He attended East High School, where he was a talented football player and a proud Dragon. His athletic ability and drive earned him a full-ride scholarship to Malone University in Canton, Ohio, where he continued to play football and pursue higher education. Joseph was a skilled landscaper, known for his hands-on work, creativity, and dedication. He took pride in his craft and approached every job with excellence. Beyond his work, Joseph was best known for his infectious smile, his big heart, and his effortless sense of style. He loved to get dressed and always made sure he looked his best, carrying himself with confidence and grace. He wore many hats in life, but his favorite and most important role was being a father. Joseph was a proud and devoted dad to all his children: Jada Thomas, Jay'Vion Qualls, Jai'ya Thomas, Ja'Don Thomas, and J'Dora Thomas. His love for them was deep, constant, and unconditional. Joseph is survived by his grandmother, Claudia Thomas. Father, Joseph Butts. Siblings; Rochelle Thomas, James "Da Rell" Thomas, Champagne Oden, Jodie Oden, Joeshawn Davis, and Jabril Neal. He also leaves behind his special cousins; Jasmine Golson, Jason Rushin, Latesha and Lakesha Dampeer, Timothy Powe, Tasha and Bert Figueroa. His very special friend, "BABY" Jessica Thomas, his "OG" Larry Givens aka "Scooter" with a host of relatives, friends, nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Lillian Faith Thomas, grandfather Wilbert Thomas, his grandmother, Idella Jane Butts, and grandfather Henry Butts. Joseph's life was a gift. His presence filled every space with love, laughter, and light. He protected and uplifted those around him, and his legacy will live on through his children and everyone he impacted. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." — Proverbs 3:5-6 Even in our pain, we trust that God's plan is greater than our understanding.
