Obituary

John Lawrence Echols passed away peacefully on November 21, 2020. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 16, 1935, the sixth child of the late Rev. Wellington C. Sr. And Magnolia (Biggers) Echols. John graduated from Northern High School and attended Lawrence Technological Institute, both in Detroit. John enlisted in the United States Army, serving most of his time in Germany, and earned a Sharpshooter Medal. He was employed by Superior Brand Meats. John was also a faithful member of Morningstar United Holy Church, under the leadership of Pastor Michael Clemons. John is predeceased by his parents, brothers Rev. Wellington C., Jr., Rev. Gerald,Sr, and James, and by sisters Dora Rodgers, Beatrice Benson, and Jeanette Nelson, great-grandson Xavior Comeaux, and son -in-law Jeffrey Shafer. He leaves to cherish his memory children, John C. (Sonya) Echols, Jean Shafer, Donna Comeaux, and Darrel (Marlo) Echols, brother Donald (Mary) Echols, and special friend Mary Ann Welcher, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
