Obituary

John Alexander Britton passed away April 25, 2013 in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. John was born in Marion County, W.Va. on May 9, 1931 to George (Lithure Miller) Britton. John was re- tired from Republic Steel. John was a veteran of the United States Army and honorably dis- charged in 1954. John was a member of the Ohio State As- sociation Department of Civil Liberties for many years. Brother John was director of the Pioneer Fez Department of the Ohio State Association I.B.P.O. Elks of the World, where he was also a past State President. John was also the Director of Northern District of Civil Liberties Department. Also, Brother John Britton was the assistant director of the Civil Liberties Central District. John was a member of the AARP, Northern Ohio Past Ex- alted Rulers Council #15 Dis- trict, Round Robin, and Mas- sillon Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #190. John was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Britton and Lawrence Hicks. John is survived by his loving wife, Allita Britton; his daugh- ter, Shawnette Britton; his grandson, Zaynier Britton; sis- ter, Charity Snow; brother, Fe- lix Hitchcock; stepchildren, Brian and Cedric Hughes, Bre'Auna (Emmanuel) Flowler and Brian Gray; host of cous- ins; nieces; nephews and John's neighborhood family of friends. John was loved by all who met and knew him. John had a smile that curled the toes of his wife, Allita and charmed his mother-in-law, who he called his girlfriend, Angeline and father-in-law, Owen Hatchett. Shawnette, his daughter, always said her Dad was a very stern man and would express exactly how he felt and would be done talking about it. He always let me know that I was to do what I wanted; I was to live my life and not listen to what others had to say! He loved making his yards and car look pretty John attended the Greater Bethel Apostolic Church.
