Joe L. Burks alias "Joe Joe" unexpectedly passed away at 84 yrs. old after becoming ill and tremendously suffering for two weeks, and on Wednesday, March 15th, at Akron City Summa Hospital, surrendered peacefully and is now resting with the Lord. Joe was born in Easley, Alabama, on Sept. 14, 1938, to Johnny and Luberta Burks and was born into a family of seven siblings. When Joe was four years old during "The Great Migration" (1910-1970) to the North, his family relocated to Akron Ohio, where his father was hired at one of the great rubber factories. His family settled in on the East side, and Joe was immediately àdmired for his stunning looks, sex appeal, outgoing personality, and fearless attitude. He took the young ladies in Akron by storm and befriended the young men. Joe was loved by ALL. Joe was extremely bright and street-smart and used his colossal and vivacious personality to hustle, using pool, dice, horseracing, ease with mathematics and other game interests to win money. He was inducted into the "Pool Hall of Fame" in Canton and has made a phenomenal billiard reputation playing pool all over the world. Joe's biggest win was a 9-Ball match for $6,000. In his spare time, he effortlessly completed his GED. He loved to travel, fish, and sports; party with his siblings and close friends and spent every chance he got with all his children. Joe, Daddy, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa lived a full and adventurous rich life. He traveled all over the world as a road manager for the famous singing group "The Platters" with hit songs such as "Only You" and "The Great Pretender", and also worked for "Ruby and the Romantics" with the hit "Our Day Will Come" and shared his many extraordinary experiences with his families and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his ex-wife Claudia Joann Burks, his son Johnathan Cory Burks, his father, Johnny Burks Sr. and his mother, Luberta Burks-Brown, his stepfather George T. Brown, his brothers: Robert Luther Burks and Johnny Jr. (Sluggo) Burks sisters: Ada Lee Morgan, Bettie Malone-Dennis, and Gloria Rutledge. Joe is survived by his daughters: Jackie (Hood) Tatum, Min. Kimberly Roland, and Roseanne (Tweety) Connelly (Emery), and sons: Dion Scott and Rashi Scott (Jacqueta), sister, Beverly Burks-Perry; Grandchildren: Cory, Kenny, Clyde, Elena, Charles Jr., Nathan, Cory, Pastors Patrice (Mayceo), and Desinae, Cristin, Emmir, Dion, Tionna, Dionna, Amir, Jayla, Jamiyiah, a host of great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, cousins, family and friends. Special friends: Geraldine, Joanne, Elsie, Joe L., John T., and Mario.
