Jobe
Wardlaw
May 24, 1957 – March 3, 2026
Jobe Wardlaw came into this world at Akron City Hospital, the youngest of three children to Bennie and Johnsie Ree Wardlaw. Growing up, he made his mark at Garfield High School and Springfield High School—not just in class, but on the football field too.
At 19, Jobe took his talents to the United States Army, serving as a heavy machinery artillery gunner. After five years, he hung up his uniform and joined his dad Bennie and brother "Cle-Bo" at East Akron Casting Company, later working at General Die Castors, but Jobe's entrepreneurial spirit couldn't be contained—he went on to start his own business, Jobe's Trucking. Truly, J.O.B. was the ultimate hustler!
In 1982, he met the love of his life, Tangier "Lett," and they were inseparable ever since—finally making it official in October 2021 after 44 years together.
Family was everything to Jobe. He was the best father, a rock-solid provider, and the strongest protector of those he loved. He loved hosting parties—whether it was on Duane Ave, Shadeside Ave, or Lovers Lane. His hobbies? Laughing, traveling, fishing, gambling (especially "Skin"), debating (because he was never wrong), investing in Tito's liquor stock, jamming on his guitar, and soaking up the blues—all while surrounded by family.
Jobe is preceded in death by his father Bennie Wardlaw, his mother Johnsie Ree Wardlaw, his daughter Celeste Renee Wardlaw, his sister Debra Jean Shealey, his brother Cleveland White Jr., grandson Jay'miere Wardlaw, several aunts and uncles, his niece MaShaunda Rice, and dear friends Eric Boykin and Gregory McKinney.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his wife, Tangier Celeste Wharton Wardlaw "Lett"; his son, Jobe Wardlaw II (Larissa Wardlaw); his daughters, Savaar Wardlaw, Lia Wardlaw, Joi Beverly (Cortez Beverly Sr.), and Jade Wardlaw; special nephew/son Kevin White; grandchildren Taj (Eudora), Jaden, Cortez Jr., Elijah, Bennie, Sophie, Joy, Lisa, Na'Liah, Heavenli Joi, Sanaa, Na'Kita, and Savannah; great-grandson Kaine Beverly; cousins Philip Portis and Fiorello "Mac" Portis (Delissa Portis); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
Jobe lived life on his own terms, loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
