Obituary

Jessie "Jet" Watson-Haynes, transitioned from vision to victory on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the age of 74 at the Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Forkland, Alabama, Jessie was raised by her grandparents John and Linnie Winn.  Grandma Linnie saw to it that Jessie, her siblings, and cousins attended the Old Greenoak Baptist Church, where they were baptized. She came to Canton at the age of 13 and was a resident of Canton for 61 years. A few years after coming to Canton, she started attending the Mt. Nebo United Holy Church. Her entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord. From the time she joined the church until the day she drew her last breathe, she spent it telling others of the goodness of God. Many days were spent by her praying for the sick, including seeing a man raised from his death bed, when doctors had given him a few years to live. Sis. Jessie, as she was lovingly called by her church family, loved to sing and have church.  Her rousing testimonies lead to her being invited to Bermuda to run a week's revival.  She loved uniting saints together in praise and often was the organizer and Mistress of Ceremonies at many church services.  She was a telephone prayer counselor for TBN and co-host of a Sunday radio broadcast in Akron, Ohio. Sister Jessie was a faithful member of Mt Nebo United Holy Church holding offices of Church Secretary, YPHA President, Sunday School Teacher, Usher and devotion leader during her tenure there. Jessie never met a stranger.  She loved people and enjoyed encouraging others.  There are countless people that called her "mom" and experienced southern hospitality when they entered her home. She loved to cook and knew she was good at it. She worked 41 years first as an employee of Bretean's Cafeteria and then retiring from the Hoover Company.  In 2014 she received the Monroe Community Family Center Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the positive impact she had on others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Haynes; mother and step-father, Rosie and Joe Williams; father, Silas Lewis; sister, Dessie Winn; brothers, Silas and Robert Lewis, nephew, William Pat Reed and spiritual daughter, Dorothy Pierce. Jessie leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, daughters, Kathy Mitchell and Valerie Watson, son, Jimmy Watson, all of Canton; sister, Dollie Reed, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; brothers, Columbus Winn, Harold (Marsha) Williams, all of Canton, and John (Gwen) Lewis of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Toshiba Shearer, Canton, Ohio and Christopher (Jennifer) Mitchell, Dublin, Ohio.  Extended family: Daughters, Rebecca Marbury, Columbus, Ohio, Sonja Layne, Canton, Ohio. Grandchildren, Jameelah Wherry, Eric and Derrick Layne, all of Canton, Ohio, Greg and Joshua Marbury, Columbus, Ohio.  Fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.  (2 sets of 5 generations) Jessie also leaves to rejoice cousins who are more like sisters:  Thelma Barrino, Delores Hammond, and Rose Dotson.
