Jesse Wilbur
White, Jr.
July 7, 1942 – February 3, 2025
Jesse Wilbur White, Jr. (Skipper), 82, was born in Akron, Ohio on July 7, 1942. He passed away surrounded by family and was deeply loved. Jesse confessed his belief in Jesus Christ at a young age, while attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He also attended Morning Star Baptist Church where he was chosen to serve as a Deacon under Pastor Edward Wheat. He graduated from John R. Buchtel High School where he participated in performing arts and was a football and track star. Jesse retired from Chrysler after 43 years of service. During his time there he received many accommodations and awards. His coworkers called him "Dr. J" due to his work ethic and efficiency.
Jesse was an avid golfer and was a member of The Tire Town Golf Club. He also prepared taxes for many friends and family for decades. He married the love of his life Alyce "Peach" in 1994, and they were married for 30 years. They loved traveling the world together and they looked forward to their weekly movie dates together.
Jesse loved caring for his family, he was blessed with a "serving spirit." Jesse loved to sing, dance and smile. His laughter could fill up the room. Jesse was the oldest living male in the Thorton family.
Before his illness he last attended Zion Temple where he served as a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Mark Anthony Ward. Jesses also took up playing the flute in his later years and enjoyed being outside working in his yard and garden.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Thelma White; father, Jesse Wilbur White, Sr.; daughters, Cydney Martin and Courtney Jones-Hunter; grandson, Ramon Fields; and great grandsons, Judah and Joseph Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alyce "Peach" White; children, Jonathan White, Camille White, Laurene (Sharise) Hopkins and Lawrence ( Torrie) Hopkins; siblings, Kaire Leonard (John, deceased), Janet Hollis (Winferd, deceased), Alvin White and Patricia White; grandchildren, Alycia Hopkins, Alex Andrew, Michelle Beauford, Crystal Moss, Tristyn Archer, Mecca Hopkins, Jaymes Martin, Taylor Martin, Courtney Jones, La' Nyce (Damarqio) Williams; and a host of great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, a baby on the way and many other relatives and friends.
