Turner, Sr. "Disco"
May 17, 1932 – March 13, 2021
Jerry Leon (Disco) Turner, Sr. , 88, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2021, while in hospice care.
Jerry was born in Asheville, Alabama on May 17, 1932, and was a long time Akron resident. He served in the Air Force, from 1949 to 1953, during the Korean War and received an Honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. After many years of service, he retired from Diamond Crystal Salt. After retiring, he worked part time as a security guard for several years.
Jerry was very personable and was blessed with the gift of gab; he never met a stranger. He loved going to the racetrack. He enjoyed watching all types of sports, especially Alabama Crimson Tide football.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Willie B. Thompson; father, William Nelson Turner; brother, John E. Turner; uncle, Eugene Thomas; son in law, Marcus Freeman; and grand-daughter, April Freeman.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Kimberly Freeman; sons, Jerry Leon (Kathleen) Turner, Jr and Jeremy Turner of Nevada; sisters, Loretta Lucas and Robbie Byers of Alabama; grandchildren, Alicia (Quornelleus) Adams, Jerry Leon Turner, III, of Colorado, Jennifer Freeman of Texas, and Erin Freeman; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great children, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; special friend Beulah Kephart. The family would like to thank the staff of Heroes Harbor Hospice at Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran Affairs for their care of our loved one.
