James P.
Cook
September 25, 1969 – December 15, 2024
James Patrick Cook, lovingly known as "Pat," was born on September 25, 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio. He passed away on December 15, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the age of 55.
Pat spent his early years in Cleveland before moving to Akron, Ohio, with his mother Beatrice Lee and younger siblings. He attended Kenmore High School and began developing the skills that would later define his career. Pat became a long-time employee of Bell Plastering and Drywall, where he honed his craft and built a foundation for his future endeavors.
In his younger years, Pat shared a long-term union with Ashanti, which brought him two daughters, Essence and Patshae. With open arms, he also embraced the role of father to Shatora during this time. Later in life, Pat relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he married Danetra and welcomed his son Jaylen into the world. Drawing on years of experience in construction and plastering, Pat established his own business in Charlotte called Fantastic Finish.
Pat had a deep love for dogs and cars and despite how dark he was his favorite color was pink . He took great pride in seeing his craftsmanship come to life after completing each project. His dedication extended beyond personal pursuits; one of the most meaningful moments of his life was traveling to Mississippi to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina—a testament to his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Those who spent time with Pat will remember him for his unforgettable personality. Whether through a witty remark or a memorable gesture, he had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he met.
Above all else, Pat cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his daughters Cierra, Shatora, and Essence; his son Jaylen; and his grandchildren Sa'Haad, Amarriana , Amoure, Aaleyah , Israle, Deaubrey , Yakyera , Treyvon , JaVarr , Karim , Brysen , Bryden, and Jiovonni. He is also remembered by his siblings Ruthie and Ivan; nephews Derrick Jr. (Deneaijha) and Bruce III; longtime girlfriend Theresa; and many close friends and extended family members.
Pat was preceded in death by his daughter Patshae Cook; mother Beatrice Lee; brother Bruce Lee; granddaughter De'Moni Baskerville; and niece Angel Lee.
James "Pat" Cook will be remembered for the joy he brought to others through both his vibrant personality and the dedication he showed to his craft and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.
