Iverson Fleming Landis, Jr., affectionately known as "Junnie" and revered as "Superman" by those who knew him best, passed away on October 9, 2024, in Raleigh, NC, at the age of 63. Born on July 20, 1961, in Akron, Ohio, Iverson was a man characterized by his fun-loving spirit, resourcefulness, and faith.
Iverson's educational journey began in Akron, Ohio, at McEbright Elementary, Goodrich Jr High and continued at Garfield High School, Class of 79. He furthered his education at Rhema Bible College and Vance Granville Community College.
Professionally, Iverson dedicated himself to serving others as Pastor of River of Life Church (Akron, Ohio) and New Covenant Christian Center (Raleigh, NC). He was also a successful entrepreneur, founding Covenant Sealcoating and Line Striping. Additionally, he worked as a Customer Service Representative at American Airlines. His career was marked by his innate ability to lead.
Iverson's personal life was rich with relationships and hobbies. He is survived by his wife Kimberly Landis (Charlotte, NC), mother, Josephine Landis (Akron, OH); his children, Silas DaJuan (Shaneen) Landis (Akron, OH), Dora and Michaela (both of Raleigh, NC), Mariah (Tulsa, OK), and lesha (Morganton, NC); siblings Dr. Michael (Carol) Stanford, Sr (Granite Bay, CA), and Constance Lee, Sharon Williams-Humphrey, Karen Stallings; stepsiblings Qwinita Bell, Lanettra Tomlinson; stepbrother Frederick (Pat) Butler (all of Akron, OH); sibling-like cousins Artreatha (Tim) Plummer (Durham, NC), Shirley Tharrington (Atlanta, GA), and Efrem (Tonya) Daniel (Creedmoor, NC); and parents-in-love, Frances and Raymond Garza (Enterprise, AL). He was preceded in death by his father, Iverson Fleming Landis, Sr., and stepmother, Geraldine Landis. A man of many interests, skills and gifts, Iverson enjoyed traveling, singing, archery, fishing, playing pool, listening to a variety of music, playing musical instruments, videography and spending time with his family. Iverson had a remarkable talent for designing and creating innovative solutions and apparatuses. This gift was inherited from his father and both grandfathers. Iverson faithfully served his extended family, including two terms as Coy Landis Family Association(CLFA) President and many years as the Coy Landis Representative for the Harris Landis Lawrence Byrd Green Family (HLLBG) Association. Iverson will truly be missed by those who knew & loved him. His legacy of love, faith, and creativity will be forever remembered and cherished by all those whose lives he touched.
