Ida E. Jack, 88, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on August 12, 2022, after a life well lived.
Ida Maxine Eiland was born December 21, 1933, to Bernie Eiland Williams and Robert A. Eiland, Sr. in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1951. She initially attended Arkansas AM&N (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) before spending several years in the United States Air Force. In addition, she received her master's degree in education from Kent State University.
She spent nearly 25 years as a schoolteacher of typing and shorthand for the Akron Public Schools. While the bulk of her career was spent at South High School, she also taught at Firestone High School and several middle schools. Not just an educator, her entrepreneurial spirit emerged when she created and ran her own business, the Mini Mink Boutique, and continued in her long career in the acquisition and management of real estate. She was a successful real estate investor with properties throughout the city.
Ida Eiland Smith Jack was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Hodge and a brother, Robert A. Eiland, Jr; as well as both of her former husbands, Theon C. Smith, Sr. and Henry I. Jack, Sr.
Ms. Jack, one of six children, is survived by her two sisters Cynthia Willis of Columbia, MD and Charlotte Dean of Marietta, GA; and one brother, Julius T. Williams of Aurora, CO
Ida will forever be loved and dearly missed by her three children, Theon C. Smith, Jr. of Akron, Beau-Micah Smith, Sr of Yonkers, NY and Terra (Loveday) Nwobilor of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Chidozie Nwobilor, Natasha Smith, Chisha Nwobilor Baker, Kashirim Nwobilor, Maxine Smith and Beau-Micah Smith, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends who loved her profoundly.
