Hortense "Gran" McKinney went home to rest with the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2019 after 87 years of this earthly life.  She was born March 9, 1932 in Kingston, West Virginia to Robert and Ida Burns. After a family relocation to Ohio she lived the majority of her life here in Canton with the exception of 1year that she resided in Camden, New Jersey.

She was a hard worker all of her life setting a good example to her children. She was employed at Aultman Hospital in the Dietary Department and she worked so many years as an office cleaner at the Bliss Tower that she retired 3 times before actually giving it up.

She was a long time member of the Antioch Baptist Church uniting under the leadership of Pastor J. R. McDonald.  She was faithful in her attendance to worship service and she loved serving in her church. Throughout her years at Antioch she served as an Usher, in the Nursery, on the Kitchen Committee, the 3 Score Plus Ministry, Sisters United Ministry, and as a member of the Greeters Ministry she was the "Chief" Greeter at the 8 o'clock service until her health prevented her from serving.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oswald "Virgil" McKinney; 2 sons, Brian Burns and Charles Longshore; and her only brother, John "Peter Rabbit" Barksdale.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories, her children, Elder Beverly Williams, Bernard Burns Sr., Bradley (Patricia) Jones Sr.,Tanya (Joey) Thomas, Valarie Parker all of Canton, OH; and Marie Raine Washington of Knoxville, TN; special grandson Terrence (Kimberly)  Lawrence; 19 other grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 3 great, great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She also leaves many, many friends including special friends Dorothy  Jackson, Gloria Wilson, the Wilson Pointe Apartment crew, Darlene  Johnson, and N.L. Walker.
