Henry C. McGhee Sr., age 97, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at the Inn at Belden Village. He was born on August 23, 1917, in Metropolis, Illinois to the late James and Georgia(Hutchinson) McGhee.
He graduated from Dunbar Metropolis High School in 1936 as the valedictorian of his class.
He retired from 40 years at Republic Steel as a load checker. He owned a refuse business and had interest in real estate.
He was a staff sergeant in the army and he was the chief meteorologist during WWII. He was responsible for giving the weather report to the allies to set the range of long range guns.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma (Prentice) McGhee and daughter Patricia Elizabeth (McGhee)Johnson, his brothers; Jimmy, David, Raleigh, Posel and his sister Lois as well as three siblings who passed away as infants.
He is survived by his two sons Henry C. Jr., and James R. (Cheyenne), as well as his grandchildren; Michael, Michelle, Gentry and a host of nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11 am at Trinity Gospel Temple, 1612 Tuscarawas Street West, Canton, OH 44708, with Brother Dave Lombardi as well as Brother Anthony Lombardi officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am until time of service. Interment following services will be at Forest Hill Cemetery 4414 Cleveland Ave NW, Canton, Ohio 44709.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and the staff at Aultman Hospital, as well as Dr. Ian Suzelis and the staff at the Inn at Belden Village.
