Hattie Lee Roper, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2017.   She was preceded in death by her parents Willie Cleveland and Hattie Howell; her four siblings; beloved mother in law and father n law Annie D. and Earnest Roper; son, Theodore L Roper, Sr.; and grandson, David D. Roper. What can one say about Hattie… devoted wife, beloved and cherished mother, sister, daughter, cousin, niece, aunt, friend extraordinaire.  Hattie loved unconditionally.  In her most important role, Hattie was a child of God.  She had a unique and special way of touching hearts and improving the lives of everyone she met.  She knew her purpose in life was to help people better help themselves so they in turn could help another.   And that's what she did up until her final breath.  She had this gift of being able to do whatever she put her mind to.  She had many talents and loved to share them with others – construction worker, electrician, chef, cake decorator, child caregiver, gardener, seamstress, teacher, doctor assistant, midwife, counselor...  The list goes on.  Hattie taught by example.  Hattie lived by faith.  She believed in asking God for what she needed and could often be heard telling others to "take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there."  "Ask and ye shall receive." She also knew that you get the most from life when you treat everyone with "love and kindness."  Hattie lived the kind of life she often spoke about.  "Be content, happy and filled with joy."Hattie is survived by her devoted husband Johnnie L. Roper, Sr., who has been the love of her life for 63 years.  She also leaves to mourn her death and cherish her memories her daughters Leetaa Roper Foster, Juanita Juniel, Deborah Roper and Vilomarie Roper; and son, Johnnie L. Roper, Jr.  She leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; special cousin Willie Davis; special daughters Kelly Ewing, Carol Jean Everett, Ronda Fitten-Sanders, and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on forever. The family would like to give special thanks to the "earth angels" employed through Summa Hospice Homecare or First Light Homecare Services who lovingly provided tender care, showed compassion, and freely gave emotional support to not only our beloved mother but to the entire family.
