Gloria J.
Turner
October 16, 1934 – January 23, 2024
Gloria Jerlene Turner, lovingly known to many as MaMa 89, passed away peacefully January 23, 2024, surrounded by family and LOVE. Born to the late Betty Warren, and raised by her grandmother, the late Dora Warren in Roxboro, North Carolina, she was surrounded by loving aunts, uncles and cousins that were more like siblings.
After graduating high school, Gloria moved to Akron, Ohio, where she lived with her loving aunt and uncle, the late Lillian and Joseph Alexander. She worked briefly at a nursing home before she was employed with The Ohio Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T) for 40 years until her retirement.
After retirement, she split her time between Ohio and Georgia. While in Ohio, she attended Mount Calvary Baptist Church, and in Georgia she attended First Afrikan Church. Her most treasured time was spent with family, especially her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, and baking (We will never forget those rum cakes, pineapple pounds, coconut pounds and caramel cakes.). MaMa was also known for her infectious smiles, warm hugs, and encouraging words.
She was married to the late Lincoln Turner to which they had two children who will forever cherish her memory: Delphyne (Frederick "Pete") Taylor of Stockbridge, GA and Lisa (Rick) Sales of Mogadore, OH.
Grandchildren; Dale Lomax II, Daniel (Kelly) Lomax, Ryan Key, Kristen Key, Morgan Key and Ricquel Sales. Great-Grandchildren: Keith Key, Kayleigh Lomax, Daniel Lomax II, Dale Lomax III, Lyric Key, Domoni Prince, Kingston Sales-McCormick, Kahlani Prince, Kandler Lomax, Nova Jones, and Drew Lomax.
Special Nieces and Nephews Kelly (Corey) Johnson, Jason Chatman, Sharyne Chatman and Gail Veal, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
