Gloria Jean
Dunivant
September 18, 1946 – December 9, 2021
The proverb says "It takes a village", Gloria Dunivant has been an entire village to so many people.
An Educator, sister, auntie, cousin, role model, and friend. Gloria Jean Dunivant was called home to be with God on December 9, 2021. As the eldest of 8 siblings, Gloria's entire life was devoted to her family, proudly fulfilling her duty as the matriarch of the Dunivant family. Gloria was born on September 18, 1946.
Her interest included; education, music, trivia, cooking, church and Bible Study. Gloria graduated from McKinley Senior High School, and later went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Malone University, as well as a Master's Degree from Kent State University. She was a Martha Holdings Jennings Scholar, with a passion for knowledge. Gloria was well known throughout the city of Canton for being an exceptional educator. Gloria taught for Massillon City Schools and Canton City Schools for 35 years. She touched the lives of countless children, parents, and fellow educators, always going the extra mile for every child she came in contact with. Gloria was a charter member of the Leila Green Alliance of Black School Educators, as well as a member of The Mary Church Terrell Women's Club. Gloria also served for a number of years on the United Methodist Calvary Mission Board. She was a former member of James S. Thomas U.M.C. and a present member of Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents Howard Dunivant Sr. and Lucy Thelma Jamerson Dunivant; godson, Terrance Suggs.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: (7) siblings, Cynthia (Quentin) Moore of Canton, Ohio, Michael Terell Dunivant Sr. of Youngstown, Ohio, Barbara Dunivant, Kenneth Dunivant, Michelle Dunivant, Howard Dunivant Jr. (Cassandra) and Craig Dunivant all of Canton, Ohio; god-sisters, Mercedes King of Youngstown, Ohio, Jaqueline Jackson of Akron, Ohio, Rochelle Prince and Kimberly Brown both of Canton, Ohio; special friends, Stephanie Patrick, Ora Strain, Myra Watkins, and Rebecca Reese, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, students, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been formed in Gloria's honor by a number of her former students and relatives: The Gloria Dunivant Higher Education Scholarship. Even in her passing, her legacy will live on. She will continue to open doors for children in the city of Canton….Gloria Jean Dunivant, Canton's Educator…A LIFE WELL LIVED
