Obituary

Geraldine ("Boopy") was born to the late Rufus & Ila Mae Spears in Steubenville, Ohio on September 15, 1934. She moved to Canton as a child and graduated from McKinley High School. As she, proudly stated, she was a tomboy and she excelled in softball, basketball, roller skating and she also loved to dance.  She met the love of her life,  William "Billy B" Young at the Pathfinder Roller Skating Rink... and she played hard-to-get.  Bowling was a common passion of Geraldine and Billy, as well as playing bid-whist.   As a couple, they were very smooth on the dance floor!  She finally said yes to his marriage proposal and were wed on July 8, 1955. She began the next chapter of her life as a wife and mother of two children. Geraldine worked for over 40 years as a domestic engineer for the Livingston family (Livingston Furniture), the Mann family (Stern 'n Mann), the Saxton family and the Lochshin family.  Geraldine accepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Canton, OH. She joined Mt. Calvary Second Baptist Church in Canton, OH where she raised her two children to learn about Jesus. She later joined Deliverance  Christian Church where  she was a faithful member for over 25 years under the leadership of Dr. Warren P. Chavers. She served as a trustee and deaconess, always reminding the congregation   to pay their tithes.  While at Deliverance, she was a prayer warrior and even while she was unable to attend church, she was always praying.  Her hobbies were gardening and her specialty was growing roses.  Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents Rufus & Ila Mae Spears; brothers, Marvin Bankhead, James Glascox, Richard, Reuben, and Joe Spears; brother-in-law,  Albert Washington; sister-in-law, Helen Spears and dear friends Richard and Ruby Talbert and Carlene Tarver. Those that will cherish the memory of her are: Husband of 62 years; William Young Sr.; son, William Young Jr. (Melanie); daughter, Adrienne (Warren) Chavers; special niece, Ronda (Steve) Mathis, sister-in-law, Jessie Washington; brother and sister-in-law, James & Liz Stewart of Savannah, Ga., and dear friend of over 70 years Dorothy Horton; god-daughter, Cheri Horton; grandchildren, Jesse Brown IV (Sara),  Omari Young (VA), Shelvi Young (VA); 8 great-grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and their families, her Deliverance Christian Church family and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
