Obituary

George Delano Wright, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2020.  George was born May 4, 1945 in Utica, N.Y. to the union of Elester and Ophelia O'Neal (nee.) Wright. He was the 6th of 16 children.

George received his formative education through the Utica, N.Y. City School system and graduated from Proctor High School in 1963. He received his    Bachelor of Arts degree from Sonoma State University. George worked for NYS and Ohio Youth Challenge. He also served as a police officer for the Canton City Police Department. George was a multi-talented musician, boxer, martial arts expert, professional basketball player, singer, and music teacher. He played the steel guitar in many churches to show his love for the Lord. George was the nucleus that brought all of the historical family tree    together in love and laughter, he will be deeply missed.

George is preceded in death by his father Elester Wright Sr.; siblings, Elester Jr., Jaydee, Oretha, Dianne, Willie, and Margie.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother Ophelia Wright, his wife of many years, Lilly Sykes Wright; (4) sons, Hassan (Denise) Jones, Kevin (Wakina) Jackson, Kwame and George Wright; (3) daughters, Patricia (Zach) Miller, Sylvia (Herbert) Reynolds and Evelyn Wright; (3) brothers, Michael (Carrie) Wright, Paul Wright, and Juan (Mekia) Wright; (6) sisters, Alberta Couch, Joann Wright, Betty (Garfield) Sykes, Shirley Wright, Rosie Wright and Theresa Wright; (18) grandchildren; (6) great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
