George "Chic" Smith, Jr. went home to be with the Lord late Friday, May 15, 2026. George was born on September 3, 1963, at Aultman Hospital. He was born to Cassie and George Smith. He attended Union Baptist Church.
George was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. A true pillar of the community, Geroge was known for his generous heart, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering willingness to help others.
George lived life with passion and purpose. He was an entrepreneur, dedicated sports coach, talented softball player, and proud member of his motorcycle club, where he built lifelong friendships and brotherhood. He found peace on the water as an avid fisherman and rarely missed the chance to cheer on his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. Lastly, he graduated with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Human and Social Services, along with a Certificate in Gerontology.
Above all, George will be remembered as a jokester who could light up any room, a loyal friend, and a man who deeply loved his family and community. His legacy of laughter, love, and service will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
He is preceded by his mother Cassie Smith, his grandparents: Deacon Eugene W. and Sister Olar M. Smith, and Jimmie and Leroy Horace, and grandchild Harlem.
George leaves fond and loving memories with his father George Smith, Sr., Rosie Smith (aunt), brothers Stefan Smith of Canton, Jeffrey Smith of Akron, Keith Smith of Canton, and his sister-cousin Sonja Campbell of Canton; his children Shanita Jones, Bijon and Melanie Penn, Harriel Moore, De’Sheia Herring, Diamond Evans, Jordan Smith, Chiquasia Degraffenried, Tyler Hopson, Austin Carpenter, Tre Smith, Jeffrey Smith, with fourteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
