October 28, 1944 – December 2, 2020
Gene Webb was born to John Henry Webb and Avilee Webb on October 28, 1944 in Clemson, South Carolina. Gene was called home on December 2, 2020. He is preceded in death by parents: John Henry Webb & Avilee Webb; sister Helen Jackson; brothers Jimmy Webb, and Larry Webb.
He graduated from Barberton High School in 1962. He went on to attend the Barberton School of Technology, and achieved an Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology and certification from the State of Ohio upon graduation in 1964. He also attended Akron University part-time evenings and accomplished one year towards a degree in Industrial Management.
On July 5, 1969 he was united in marriage to Odessa Auls of Akron, Ohio. Shortly after they started a family, to that beautiful union four children were born. He was a devoted and proud father.
Gene joined the military in 1965 and served his country in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1971.
Gene was a dedicated professional with an unmatched work ethic. His career began in Barberton, Ohio as an Engineering Aide at Babcock & Wilcox. He continued to progress through promotions to Junior Preventative Maintenance Engineer, and Yard Foreman at Pittsburgh Plate Glass company. He went on to become the Terminal Operations Manager at Roadway Express in Akron, Ohio until 1977. He later retired from McNeil NRM after 38 years, as a Production Control Supervisor in 2015.
Outside of his family, one of Gene's proudest accomplishments was being issued a U.S. Patent off of his innovative work, entitled "Technique and Apparatus for Balancing Rotating Members".
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Odessa Webb; daughters: LaShawnn Brown (Derek) Akron, OH, Regina Curry (Richard) Fallston, MD, Tedra Webb Edgewood, MD and Christina Webb Akron, OH; sisters Amelia Jones (Terral), and Helen Crawford; brother Melvin Webb; grandchildren: Joe Miller, Alaina Brown, Breyanna Webb, Garrison Curry, Savannah Curry, Samiya Harris, Skye Ford and Seanna Ford; great grandchild Blake Miller; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and very close friends and extended family.
Homegoing service will be held Friday, December 18th, 2020, 12:00 noon at Rhoden Memorial Home, 1101 Palmetto Ave., Akron, OH 44306, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Social distancing and MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
