In Loving Memory of Fred Johnson
On July 6, 2015 Fred Johnson went to sleep in time. On July 7, 2015 he woke up in eternity. Fred was born on August 31, 1926 in Conway, South Carolina to Fred and Ola Johnson. He graduated from Whitemore High School then served in the United States Army. He attended Xavier University of New Orleans and received his Bachelor's in Pharmacy. Fred served the community as a pharmacist for 50 years. He owned the McKinley Pharmacy then worked for People's Drug, Revco, Rite-Aid, Fallsview Psychiatric Hospital and retired from the Veteran's Administration. He was a philanthropist, mentor, community leader, and humanitarian. He was an active member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, St. Benedict's Parish Council, The Catholic Interracial Council of Stark County Ohio, Ohio Commission of African American Catholics, The Knights of Columbus, Knights of Peter Claver, Youngstown Diocese Minority Concerns Commission, The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., The Canton Negro Oldtimers, The Canton, Rainbow Repertory Company Inc., Board Member of Meyers Lake YMCA, Board Member of The Hunter House, NAACP, Canton Urban League, Stark County Foundation Leadership Council, Tackle Neighborhood Assoc., and the Lenzy Family Institute. He received awards from the Ohio Area on Aging, The Juniettes, ABCD Inc., and The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Ohio State Board of Pharmacy; and Pope Fancis II. Fred Johnson loved and enjoyed life to the last second. He enjoyed socializing, dancing, laughing, philanthropy, cooking, traveling, sharing his wisdom (whether you requested it or not); and being around family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ola Johnson; daughter Carolyn Johnson; siblings, Willie Mack, James, Benjamin, Gilbert, Edward, Sylvester, Alberteen, Alberta, Alique, and Emma. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Robin Johnson; brother Roland (McGinnis) Johnson; daughter Danelia Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina; sons, Frederick Martin Johnson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Reginald (Dorothy) Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, Keith Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kevin Johnson of Canton, Ohio as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
