Foster W. Simpson's Obituary

Mr. Foster W. Simpson was born on January 18, 1926, in Georgiana (Butler County) Alabama. He was the seventh of eight children of Gus and Mary Smith Simpson, all of whom preceded him in death.  He was affectionately known by his family as "Brother".  It was truly a blessing that he, along with two of his siblings, lived past ninety years old.

He became a Christian as a young boy and began his work in Christ's kingdom in The St. John African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the family church.  He attended regularly until he left for college.  His education began at the Colored Union High School, later renamed the Georgiana Training School. He attended high school at the Methodist institution Lomax-Hannon School in Greenville, AL.  He then went on to graduate and attend the Alabama State College in Montgomery, AL. After college, he joined the United States Army.

After he was discharged, he met his first wife, Geraldine. They relocated to Akron, Ohio where he worked for the Chrysler Corporation.  He worked there for over 30 years and later retired.  During this marriage, their union was blessed with a son named William Wayne Simpson.  In later years, he met and married Alene Simpson.  They lived many years of a blissful life until she preceded him in death.

Mr. Simpson joined the St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Akron and worked faithfully and long. He was active in all church activities, ever ready to do what was needed, always on the alert as to how he could help, comfort, and cheer someone who was in need.  He loved ushering, being a doorkeeper in the house of his Lord was his greatest fulfillment.  He was also a part of the Masonic Lodge and also the ICUA.

During the later years of the union of Foster and Alene, her niece, Linda Griffin became their caregiver.  She was dedicated to them both, remaining even after the death of her aunt.  She continued to bring "Uncle Foster" to church, meet his doctor appointments, and keep him active in community activities.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, William "Wayne" W. (Nancy) Simpson, Akron, OH; daughter, Wheatha Predue; a sister-in-law, Janet Simpson, Georgiana, AL; a devoted niece and caregiver, Linda Griffin, Akron, OH; a dedicated driver, Carl Milbry, Akron, OH and Harvey Tuck; and a large host of nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones.

Special thank you to Dr. Rasheed Neemer and the Hospice Care Team. Also special thanks to nieces and nephews, Terry, Caesar and Beverly for always visiting; his barber, Melvin Gooden; and Pastor Hudson and The St. John CME Church family for all of the cards and prayers.
