Obituary

Floyd P. McIlwain received his crown on May 30, 2026. Born in Lancaster County, South Carolina on February 12, 1942, he was the third child and the third son of Bubber Lee and Edna E. McIlwain.

After the family moved to Canton, Ohio in 1943, Floyd attended Mount Olive Baptist Church where he served faithfully for over 50 years. Later, he and his wife joined Peoples Baptist Church where both were active members until his ill health and Floyd was a member of the male chorus.

Floyd attended Allen (now Patrick) Elementary School) and was a proud graduate of McKinley high School and an integral part of the 1960 winning basketball team earning all-city and all-county recognition.

He met the love of his life while in high school, Diane Woody. They would have been married for 64 years on June 2, 2026. Two sons were born of their union, Gregory, who unfortunately did not survive, and Craig Lee, who resides in Indianapolis, IN.

His thirty years of employment with the Timken Company was interrupted by his service in the United States Army. He received an Honorable Discharge on October 18, 1968. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Bubber Lee and Edna McIlwain, two brothers, Edward and Albert, and a sister, Norma Snyder. Sister in law, Teena (Woody) Moore and Nephew Bryant Woody.

He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 63 years, Diane (Woody) McIlwain; son, Craig Lee (Marsha) McIlwain; two grandsons, Miles and Devin McIlwain; nephews who bear his name Floyd Randall McIlwain (Lesley), and Great nephew J Pressley Reece McIlwain, Richard Saulter (Ramona), Leonard, and Patrick Woody; nieces, Jeaneen McDaniels (Jeffrey) , Tyronia Saulter, Augustine Woody; who lovingly called him Uncle Floyd; sisters in law, Brenda Woody, Nadine McIlwain Massey (Bill) and brother-in- Law, Dwayne Summons (Izora) and many friends,

relatives, and the proud heritage he shared with his South Carolina family.

Floyd was known for his fashion sense and that “cool” walk announcing his entrance into any room. More importantly he is remembered as a believer in God, a loving husband, and a caring son, brother, uncle and friend.
