Fletcher Pierce
"Coach Fletch"
June 22, 1942 – January 20, 2025
Mr. Fletcher Pierce was born to Joe and Ida (Askew) Pierce on June 22, 1942 in Brickley, Arkansas. The family later moved to Massillon, Ohio. Fletcher attended Massillon City Schools and graduated from Washington High School. Fletcher enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation and was a part of the first platoon to arrive in Da Nang, South Vietnam to serve until the end of his tour. Fletcher can be seen in the Vietnam Documentary boarding the ship to serve. After serving his country, he worked for Timken Company as a bricklayer in the Bearing Plant until retirement. Fletcher AKA "Coach Fletch" in the community served as a football coach for the midget league for over 25 year. A few of the players showed gratitude for the foundation he had given them that helped them in their NFL careers. Sports, especially football, was a sincere passion of Fletcher. He attended many games and coached his grandson Thomas from the stand. He may have been a Massillon Tiger however, he was truly an undercover McKinley Bulldog. Fletcher was a strong advocate for Civil Rights, which he displayed through his advocacy attending the First Million Man March in 1995. In his spare time, Fletcher really enjoyed listening to music. He had quite a collection of oldie but goodie tunes. If he knew you loved music as much as he did, you would receive a cassette or CD with your favorite tunes as an unexpected gift. Fletcher and his wife Mary Jane would dance, sing and entertain for family and friends. Fletcher was truly a man of great wisdom and compassion. He loved his family and enjoyed helping them succeed in their endeavors. He was the best grandpa and papa as known by his grandchildren. Fletcher is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Parnel Traylor, William Pierce, Ed Pierce, AI Piece, Robert Pierce and Jan Potter. Niece Anjie Potter and nephew John Pierce. Fletcher is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Jane (Floyd) Pierce. Daughter Verona (Cornelius) Floyd, stepdaughters Renee Salter and Debra Mackey (Bobby), stepson Victor Mackey. Brother Floyd "Duke" Pierce. Grandchildren; Alexis Floyd, Taylor Floyd, Jade Floyd, Thomas Ross, Jr., Terry Burt, Jr., Lashawn Burt, Kristopher (Amber) Mackey, Adonte Mackey. Great grandchildren; Marah Mackey, Sharis Mackey, Rae Mackey, Diamond Burt, Brianna Burt, Tyrez Burt, Hailey Burt, Terrence Burt, Te'Yana Ross, Trayvon Wright, Jr., Quentin Chase Sugick, Brooklyn Placeres, Cloe Franklin, Clara Franklin, and Carmelo Bell.
